Jakarta – TAMBANG. PT Pertamina (Persero) set the target to dominate 80% of the national petrochemical market in 2025. Chrisna Damayanto, Pertamina’s Director of Processing, was confident to achieve the target.

He further explained that in order to reach the target, Pertamina will aim for national and multinational market through cooperation mechanism. In addition to the cooperation with PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical, Tbk., Pertamina has also signed MoU with three multinational petrochemical cooperation, i.e. SK Global Chemical, PTT Global Chemical, and Mitsubishi Corporation.

Pertamina would be able to increase its propylene production capacity with RCC Off Gas to Propylene Project (ROPP) at Balongan Refinery, which started to operate on 14 January 2013. The investment value at ROPP Balongan is estimated at US$ 238 million, with a propylene production capacity of 170,000 ton per year. ROPP Balongan was built with EPC PT Rekayasa Industry and Toyo Engineering Corporation as joint contractors.

Additionally, Ali Mundakir, Pertamina’s VP Corporate Communication, elaborated that in 2017 the company would have controlled 30% of the national petrochemical market, with an estimated value worth over US$ 30 billion.

“Currently the national petrochemical market is worth at US$ 5 billion, and Pertamina has only managed 10% of it,” he claimed. []
